Mask Maker required for interview with The Edinburgh Reporter

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
"Mask maker, mask maker, make me a mask…"

I have received an email from Athena Dennis of the Edinburgh Reporter who
is currently writing a piece on Beltane.  The Edinburgh Reporter is a
website that covers all sorts of goings on in our fair city, focusing
heavily on the arts and culture.  As if that wasn't enough, it's tagline
is: "A Capital Read", which I found hilarious.

As part of her article Athena is including a DIY section for making masks
that members of the audience can wear. She seems very enthusiastic and her
intent is to try to get more people to come to the festival.

I think this is another great way in which the community can get more
involved.  Her masks will probably never rival the fishnet body stocking
and Burberry Cap combo that I saw a girl wearing on the hill a couple of
years ago, but with your help she might be able to get a good few people
decked out in fantastic facial regalia.

If you would be willing to offer your time and expertise to a quick and
informal interview, Athena can be contacted at athena.j.dennis@gmail.com (athena NULL.j NULL.dennis null@null gmail NULL.com)
She will also be at the open meeting, but ideally would like to get her
article completed before that in order to entice more people along.

Speaking of enticing, we are still in need of poster designs to entice
people to come to Beltane itself.  If you are interested, please email me
at press@beltane.org (press null@null beltane NULL.org)

Beltane Poster Design Needed!

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Hey everyone,

Even though it looks like the winter might never end, the Beltane Fire
Festival looms large on the horizon. And what better way to spend these wet and windy evenings than sitting in the comfort of your own flat and designing a poster for that very festival?!

The design will be used on posters and flyers to promote the festival
throughout Edinburgh. In previous years the artwork has also being used on hoodies and t-shirts, which may be a possibility for this year.

First off, the bad news: The deadline for poster ideas is February 23rd.

The good news is that what we’re not looking for a technicolour-pop-up-with-moveable-parts extravaganza at this stage, but
sketches and ideas that convey a sense of what you hope to realize in the finalized design.

Previous designs have often centered on the figure of the May Queen and/or the Green Man, but the only real stipulation is that the design is relevant to the festival. You don’t have to have a portfolio of previous work, you don’t have to have studied under a Renaissance Master, you just need to have an idea, transfer it from your head into reality, and email it to press@beltane.org by February 23rd.

So dust off your muse, and, as one cowboy said to the other…

“DRAW!”
