Tales from Beltane: Gordon’s story

Gordon (and his camera) have been coming to Beltane since 2011. In our first ‘Tales from Beltane’ guest post, he talks about what keeps him coming back…

Beltane was a new experience for me. I was first introduced to what I found to be a super event year in year out by Emily, who was one of the drummers. Back in 2011 is when the Reds and Fire hit my camera. I was amazed by the great body paint, make-up and costumes of the performers and I had a fabulous night on Calton Hill.

The following year, 2012, I just knew I had to go back. I found new friends again performing a wonderful display and yes, more images followed. It is what I found in my photographs when I got them out of my camera that keep drawing me back. Also, the respect I get as an audience member from the friends who are performing is something I find oh so warming on a cold night!

In 2013 I was back nice and early to get my spots marked out on the Hill. Again, drawn to the fire, respect has to go to all the effort and planning for the night to make it such a safe and friendly place to be.

2014 was no different – I was back again! I had to come and see the dragon that I had heard so much about. I must say it was impossible to think I was not watching a professional production. Again, another fantastic night had by all.

I will be back to see the 2015 production and support all the hard work put in to Beltane night. It is a must see, and keep seeing, experience.

You can buy tickets to Beltane 2015 from The Hub. If you would like to get involved in this year’s festival, you are welcome to come to the Open Meeting.
