Don’t worry, you didn’t miss your chance – there is still time to be part of Beltane Fire Festival 2018.
Night Watch are looking for lots of friendly faces to join our Stewards team. Members of this group will have the best seat in the house (ahem, hill), forming the final gateway between our festival’s spectators and the many spirits and creatures that have come to visit.
You will play the key role of keeping our performers safe, answering questions from people who have come to witness the festival, and helping our volunteers and security behind-the-scenes to keep Beltane running smoothly.
Anyone looking to join will need to do at least one walkthrough (which take place on the final two weekends of April) and complete our fire safety training.
If you are able to, then the more practices you can make beforehand the better – Stewards meet between 1-3:30pm on Calton Hill every Sunday between now and the festival. If you cannot make that time, just get in touch with our Group Organisers who will do their best to help you out.
To join, or if you have any questions, you can get in touch with Night Watch at nightwatchstewards[at]beltane[dot]org.
If you’re handy at making stuff, or fancy learning some new skills, then Tech are also looking for some industrious volunteers to help set up Beltane.
In the lead-up to the festival, Tech will be busy building fire sculptures and props for groups and getting everything ready to take up the hill. On the day, you will take care of decorations and building the stages, as well as setting up the glamorous stuff like fences, toilets, and crowd barriers. You are then in charge of moving the Neid fire between key points at the festival, making sure that our performers have all the toys and fire effects that they need. At the end of it all, you take everything down again.
People of all skill levels are welcome to join Tech – we just need people who are up for working hard while having fun. We will be accepting volunteers up until the final walkthrough (on the last weekend of April). If you are interested in joining, then let us know at tech[at]beltane[dot]org.
Beltane would be nothing without its amazing volunteers burrowing away behind-the-scenes, and we’d love for you to join us. These are two great opportunities for anyone interested in making their first foray into Beltane Fire Society, getting experience in events work, or simply meeting new people and having a great view of the action.
