The Grand May Day Ceilidh, incorporating the Beltane Fire Festival after-party at the Caves with a 5 hour Drum Till Dawn Session.
Once upon a time the Edinburgh Beltane was free and people drummed till dawn…and beyond. To re-kindle this element of the night, the 25th Beltane afterparty is proviing a very special space within the club for all night drumming. Drum crews include the Edinburgh Drum Soc, Counter Point, Wha Sylla and a mix of anyone still able.
The Caves is an exciting truly unique, atmospheric wedding venue situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. Its huge arches, that support Edinburgh’s South Bridge, form a multitude of unique and diverse function rooms. From the main vault whose stage is overlooked by a spacious balcony, to vaulted rooms that still contain the remains of buildings that predate the South Bridge itself, this atmospheric venue speaks for itself.
Performers include New Urban Frontier, Reel Time Ceilidh Band, RURA, Anonymi, Borocco Dancer, Riddim Tuffa, Bass Alliance, No Globe, AYE Margaret Bennet and Company, Edinburgh Drum Society, Waa Sylla, Covalent, Lou Angel and Benji Banton with visuals by Repsychognomics, delicious food from Chocolate Treet and highlights from the Beltane Fire Society 25 year anniversary exhibition.
The venue opens at 9pm for people to have a look at the exhibition before the ceilidh dances begin at 10pm. It is advisable to arrive at the club as early as you can to avoid long queues.
