Beltane is a community that shares. Together, we learn from one another and grow alongside our festival. Volunteering your time to take part in Beltane Fire Festival should be a two-way street, and we hope that you get back as much as you put in – whether in the form of friendships, new skills or just incredible experiences.
The following two free workshops are coming up soon and available exclusively to Beltane members. Places are limited. So, to secure a place, make sure to reserve a ticket online. And if you can no longer make it, please let us know so someone else can take your place.
Fire Safety Workshop
Where: The back car park of St Margaret’s House
When: Monday 20 March, 6:30-9:30pm
Fire is such a huge part of our festival… it is Beltane. It brings us together, feeds us, cleanses us and burns bright into the night. With an audience of thousands it’s so important that we get it right, and keep it safe.
One of our seasoned Beltaners, Tom Caine, is offering a chance to Beltane members to come along and learn basic fire safety skills. This three-hour workshop will cover the safe dipping and storage of fuels, the role of fire technicians, environmental factors, the proper usage of safety equipment and first aid.
It will be held in the back car park of St Margaret’s House on Monday 20 March between 6:30 – 9:30pm. Whether you’re new to working with fire or just want a refresher course on fire safety we can stress enough how useful this free workshop will be.
Places are limited, and can be booked through Eventbrite, where you will find all the details.
Dance, Movement and Capoeira Workshop
Where: The Cutting Room, Out of the Blue
When: Saturday 18 March, 2-5:30pm
Movement is also central to what we do. We move across the Hill, we move with the seasons and we’re lucky to have some talented movers among us. For Beltane performers, this is a chance to consider holistic conditioning and moving, dance bodywork, acrobalance and performance training.
Led by Will Thorburn (Green Man) and Sara Ferreira (Blue), the workshop will include working with the body creative movement, flexibility, partner work, floor work, travelling, intensity, imagery, breath, symbolic combat and inversions (from capoeira) counter balance, base and flyer and a lot of fun! There will be a chance for team and individual expression, energetic building, as well a focus on musicality and rhythm.
The workshop will consist of a half-hour warm up followed by three one hour slots on capoeira, acrobalance and dance, with a maximum of 12 people. You’ll need to bring clothes that are easy to move in, and maybe a base layer too, or a warm extra layer; a bottle of water; and drummers feel free to bring your drum.
Places are limited to just twelve. To secure your place, book online via Eventbrite.
