If you’d been wandering around the Grassmarket in Edinburgh on the evening of 2nd February, you may have been lucky enough to encounter the fiery, performance art flashmob that was Beltane Fire Society’s Imbolc ritual. As one audience member was overheard to say “You don’t see things like this every day. This is culture!”.
The Smudge Team, complete with sage and besoms, cleansed the ritual space…
…and Fire Priests brought light and warmth.
There was a presence of Earth…
Fire…
Air…
…and Water, to greet the Goddess Brìghde.
The Winter King, Cernunnos, arrived…
…with his entourage.
They were joined by Summer…
…for the first skirmish between the seasons.
Brìghde and Pan were merciful towards the fallen Summer warriors…
before the wise Crone aspect and her Spring counterpart brought balance.
Vibrant Pan was victorious in his stand-off against Cernunnos.
Before we went to celebrate at a fantastic fundraising club at the Three Sisters, our epic volunteer Stewards made sure everything was clean and tidy!
Thanks to Nate Kelso and Richard Winpenny for the photos. This is only a tiny selection of beautiful imagery from the event. You can see the rest on Facebook.
