Tom Watton, on behalf of the BFS Board of Directors, would like to announce this year’s AGM…
Whilst Beltane Fire Festival is over, the work of the Beltane Fire Society (BFS) Board of Directors continues all year round. As such, it’s now time to announce that our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at 2pm on Sunday 15th June 2014 in The Bongo Club, 66 Cowgate, Edinburgh EH1 1JX. There will be signs at the venue door directing you to the meeting room.
If you have any items you would like to be raised for voting at this meeting then please email scribe@beltane.org before the 6th June in order for these to be circulated to the membership for consideration and discussion.
The AGM is an important opportunity for you, our members, to create the future of BFS for the next year. The main item on the agenda is the election of the Board of Directors. The current Board of Directors will be retiring. Some may stand for re-election and there may be some new candidates standing. This is your chance to vote for the people you think should be responsible for the Society for the next year. The Board of Directors has an obligation to act in the best interests of the Society, to uphold our charitable objectives and our reputation and to manage the Society on behalf of the membership. They have legal obligations to OSCR and Companies House, as well as their social and moral obligations to the society.
So far there have been items submitted for voting already, please see the attached documents for more information.
If you are a member of our Society and would like to vote but will not be able to attend the AGM, you can choose a proxy (someone to vote on your behalf). In order for this to happen, please email chair@beltane.org with your name and your proxy’s name before 1pm on Friday 6th June. Your voting slip will then be handed to them on their arrival. Your proxy can only vote on behalf of one person so please do not ask someone who has already agreed to proxy for someone else. Your proxy also must be a member of BFS and cannot be running for election to the Board.
If you feel you have skills to offer the Society and would like to stand for the Board of Directors, now is the time to apply! Please see the “Responsibilities of the BFS Board” document below and an application form (to be returned to scribe@beltane.org by Friday 6th June). When considering your application, please consider your areas of interest and the relevant skills that you can bring to the Board. Please be aware that volunteer Board members are required to have lots of patience, good communication skills, flexibility, practical experience and a genuine dedication to the role.
Applications will then be distributed among the membership via to give time to read and consider them before voting.
You are welcome to register your attendance on our Facebook Event Page.
