In our final Samhuinn Through the Years article, Megan talks about taking part in Samhuinn and finding her tribe…
My first Samhuinn was last year, 2014, when I was the urban sherpa/cloak mule/painter of backs and elbows for the Circle of Nature group. I have been Pagan since I was 15 years old and was looking for other like-minded spiritual folks. I attended the Beltane Fire Festival and immediately knew I had found my tribe. I wanted to join Samhuinn however I was away for the Summer and arrived back in Edinburgh after the all groups had closed. My friend Ellie was in Circle of Nature and said they needed someone to help them out on the night, so I jumped at the chance to volunteer!
Hands down, my stand out memory from my first Samhuinn was walking up the Royal Mile to get the Circle of Nature performers in place for the procession. The streets were seven layers deep with people, torchlight lit all the buildings, and all the breath left my body! In that moment I knew I was part of something sacred and eternal.
This year, I’m particularly looking forward to the drums! You know when you hear the Beasties play that this festival is a celebration!
