As we slowly bring ourselves back to reality, with new memories flickering in the flames of the night, we wanted to extend a big Beltane-sized thank you to everyone involved.
Starting with a message from our board:
“Thank you so very much to everyone who made our thirtieth Beltane Fire Festival such a beauty. We’re wildly grateful to the 350 volunteers who have poured two months or more of their lives into preparing for the event as performers and production crew, and to the 9,000-odd folk who bought tickets and joined us on the Hill to witness the event. Together, we welcomed the coming of Summer in serious style.
We also want to thank everyone who has been part of Beltane across the past thirty festivals. Because of your love, energy and creativity, this beautiful beast of a community event is still going strong, committed to celebrating the turning seasons and sharing our story, skills and joy with everyone we can. Here’s to making our next thirty Beltanes just as magical!”
The Beltane Community
A big thanks to all the Group Organisers (GOs) that brought their groups of volunteers together to create something wonderful. Thanks to all the members of all the groups – the performers, helpers, stewards, drummers, costume-makers, and torchbearers – for giving up so much time and effort; it’s forever appreciated. Thanks to the Blues and Court, for bringing so much to their roles and keeping our traditions and ritual alive. Thanks to our incredible Event Coordinator, Georgia Royes for making it all happen (and still smiling!), and to our Event Safety Officer for making sure it all happened safely. Thanks to our trustees for their hard work in keeping BFS going. Huuuge thanks to the Tech team who not only helped all of our groups realise their fantastical visions but also worked hard to return Calton Hill to its regular state yesterday – it’s almost as if nothing ever happened… almost. And a big thanks to our Photopoint team who blended into the night, but were right there at every key moment, capturing memories for years to come.
Thanks too to those that founded our festival, to Angus Farquhar, and to Margaret Bennett, who sang so beautifully at our after-party; all the people who have been involved over the past 30 years have helped make the festival what it is today. And last, but by no means least, thanks to everyone that attended as audience members; first timers and those that have been coming for 30 years. Thanks for welcoming in Summer the Beltane way.
