PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN OPEN MEETING. This is a community discussion for current BFS members/volunteers only. If you’ve volunteered at one of our festivals in the past three years, do come along – but if not, the best way to get involved for the first time is to join the Samhuinn 2017 Open Meeting, which we’ll be holding later in the year. We’ll post details here as soon as we have them. Thanks!

Anna Chaney is stepping down from the role of May Queen now that Beltane 2017 is complete. She has suggested that we all meet to discuss the nature of the role, the length of time it’s held, and how performers who take it on are selected. Anna has some thoughts on this that she’d like to share with everyone, and then we can all share our views and thoughts and shape how we move forward.
By holding this blether so soon after Beltane, the hope is that the significance of the role will still be fresh in all our minds, and we’ll have plenty of time before the next Beltane to find the next community member to take on the role of May Queen.
The May Queen is a vital role for our Beltane festival, so we’re hoping as wide a range of voices and opinions from across the community as possible will join. Please pass these details on to other BFS members, and we hope to see you on the 21st!
If you’ve got any questions about the blether, do just let us know – email board [at] beltane [dot] org. And if you have anything in particular you’d like to be described or discussed as part of the session, please let us know about that too.
We hope to see you there!

On venue accessibility: The venue has a shallow ramp at the entrance and the interior and toilets are accessible (a wide-door lift operates to the floor with the main hall). Limited parking for Blue Badge holders is available outside the venue by prior arrangement with the church, and several Lothian buses stop immediately outside the venue entrance.
