Shout out (Again!) for Group Organisers!

We’re so excited about the groups who have put themselves forward for Samhuinn 2022!

There are still a couple of groups missing that are vital to our Festival running safely – and room for some more Wintery delights!

We’re so excited about the groups who have put themselves forward for Samhuinn 2022!

There are still a couple of groups missing that are vital to our Festival running safely – and room for some more Wintery delights!

Nightwatch:

Nightwatch are the ever watchful guardians of that liminal space between the city and the festival. They walk together along the veil between the worlds, our Stewards on one side, and our Torchbearers on the other.

We’re looking for Group Organisers, and Elder (experienced) Stewards and Torchbearers who may feel drawn to leading or facilitating Nightwatch this Samhuinn. We also very much welcome offers from individuals who may not have found a co-GO, as we can put you in touch with other interested parties!

Stewards:

Our Stewards are the guardians of that liminal space between the City and the Festival. They, more than anyone else, are the volunteers with the power to create and hold physical performance space, engage with audience members, connect with the production crew and emergency services, and generally ensure everyone at our festival has a joyful and hassle-free night. Could you be our Wizard of Witness Welcoming, our Royal High-Viz-Ness?

Torchbearers:

Our stoic Torchbearers are the creators and keepers of the Neid Fire, the natural light that illuminates our whole festival. Donning cloaks and brandishing flaming torches, they march with the procession, lighting the way and illuminating performance spaces. Without them, there would barely be anything to see. Could you be our Leader of Light, our Potentate of Paraffin?

Tech:

Our Tech team prepares the site for the festival by building stages, marking out performance areas and building the bonfire that marks Beltane. In the run up to the festival, they develop skills such as fire safety, and may well conjure up fiery props in our warehouse, Beltonia. On the festival evening, they don their traditional red overalls and run the tech element of the festival, with a unique behind the scenes view. Do you feel the call to lead our Tech family, and Captain Beltonia’s mighty crew?

Winter Performance Groups:

It’s been a beautiful summer, but do you long for the crisp air, the dancing storms, and the long starlit nights of winter? We’re still looking for a couple more performance groups to bring the beauty and strength of Winter to our Samhuinn celebrations!

Perhaps YOU hear the call of ravens, of glaciers, of bones; of the horns that blow through the blizzards, of mischief in clothes of frost and fog…

(We are, however, delighted to say we already have plenty of drums, and applications for drumming groups are closed!!)

Let Us Know:

If you feel drawn to any of these roles, please get in touch with us at festival@beltane.org. We would be thrilled to receive a Group Organiser Application from you – you can find the form here, and the application guidance here – but greatly welcome any questions, or notes of interest, and can put you in touch with fellow interested people.
Please send in any applications, queries, or notes of interest by 5pm on Monday 15th August, so that we can get everything ready for you in time to see you at the GO weekend on 20-21st August.
