Our epic Tech team have a message for the people who signed up with them at the Open Meeting and anyone who might be interested in joining them…

Pots of Fire! Burning sculptures! Epic Stages! Tubs of Flapjacks! Tech are the stage crew behind the magic of Beltane. We are the fire proof suited, soot stained, frazzled looking folks who put it all together on the night. We build the stages, make the sculptures, soak the rope, prep the fuel, put out the fires and in the morning, pack it all away again. And all this powered by nothing more than tea and biscuits.

So far the Group Organisers (GO’s) for Beltane 2013 have spent their time going over the lessons learnt from last year’s performance, carrying out auditions for their groups, sketching out the rough storyline and identifying their performance spaces on the hill. This allows us to start thinking about the shape and size of stages, fire sculptures and where other props are going to go. Once the ideas start to flow, we can expect requests for all
kinds of amazing things to start to come our way. So far Helen and I are thinking about how to meet a request for a ‘Sea of fire’ – could be
interesting!

It would be great for us all to start to get to know the rest of the team and so I would like for those of us who can make it to meet up
next Thursday at 7.30pm in the Auld Hoose pub, 23-25 St Leonards Street, Edinburgh, EH8 9QN. This would be a great chance for us all to be able to put names to faces and talk about what’s planned. I know, like me, many of you have full time jobs and some live the other side of the country (or even in different countries!) but those who can make it, it would be great to see you. The food there is also pretty damn good!

Finally, I know some of you put your details down for multiple groups and these groups will be choosing their members soon. If any of you are not going to be free to be in Tech (I can’t for a moment imagine why you might not want to!) can you drop me a line so I can take you off the list once you know.
