We are looking for volunteers to help with this year’s Samhuinn Fire Festival! Whether you have been involved before or are interested in learning more about it you may be able to help this year’s Samhuinn happen! If getting more experience with events and meeting of new and lovely people sounds good, then our Steward and Tech teams would love to hear from you.
VOLUNTEER AS A STEWARD WITH NIGHTWATCH
Stewards are the friendly faces that help protect the procession and keep both the performers and the public safe on the night of the festival. We get the best view, walking right alongside the performers, we get to dance to the drums and make a lot of new friends along the way. It’s our job to hold the line, keeping members of the public out of the procession as best we can so that everyone can enjoy the night as safely as possible, and keeping performance spaces clear for the procession to enter.
Our Stewards are part of Nightwatch, the ever watchful guardians who maintain the barrier between our world and the next. They act as a window onto the Otherworldly realm that emerges on the night of Samhuinn by sharing the significance of our celebrations and helping to direct witnesses to vantage spots around the route – which is only being made public to those who preregister.

Stewards are a low-commitment group with weekly meetings every Sunday afternoon. The venue varies but it will be central and outside – it is preferable if you show up to as many as you can, but just let the organisers know if you can’t make any.
Anyone looking to join will need to do at least one Walkthrough (which takes place on two Sundays in October – 17th and the other TBC) and complete our fire safety training. In order to keep everyone safe, we encourage all Beltaners to be vaccinated, and require everyone to take regular lateral flow tests prior to each rehearsal or gathering. By volunteering, stewards become a member of BFS and are invited to other events and socials that we organise.
To sign up with our Stewards, email Kirsty and Rhiannon at stewards[at]beltane[dot]org
HELP BUILD THE FESTIVAL WITH TECH POINT
Tech Point are the makers, builders, and take down-ers of our community who transform for the night of Beltane Fire Festival. If you’re good at making stuff, or would like to learn some new practical skills, you’ll feel right at home with this group.
In the lead-up to the festival, you will be busy building and getting everything ready, from fire sculptures to puppets and other imaginative props that our performers dream up. On the day, you will take care of decorations and as well as setting up the glamorous stuff like fences and crowd barriers. You are then in charge of moving the Neid fire between key points at the festival, making sure that our performers have all the toys and fire effects that they need. At the end of it all, you take everything down again.

Tech Point meet weekly on Sundays from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at our workshops in Leith, as well as working to build and take down the festival in the days leading up to, and including, Sunday 31st October.

Hi, As much as I’d love to be a part of this and volunteer, I’m coming from overseas and won’t be there in the run-up to the festival. How/where do I get tickets to attend? And where in Edinburg will it take place? Cheers, Louise
